Who we are

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Student Chapter of University of Rajshahi is a dynamic community of undergraduate students with a passion for microbiology. As a recognized student chapter of the ASM, we serve as a hub for students who are eager to explore the world of microorganisms, engage in scientific discovery, and contribute to public health awareness.

Our chapter is dedicated to fostering a collaborative environment where students from the life sciences can grow their knowledge and skills through a variety of activities, including:

• Webinars and seminars on cutting-edge topics in microbiology.

• Scientific writing competitions and workshops to enhance communication skills.

• Public health awareness programs focused on global microbiological challenges.

• Hands-on workshops and events that allow students to gain practical experience in microbiology research.

Our aims and objectives

At the American Society for Microbiology Student Chapter of  University of Rajshahi (ASMRU), we are committed to fostering an environment that encourages curiosity, learning, and engagement with the world of microbiology. Our key aims and objectives are:

• Promote Microbiology Education: To enhance the understanding of microbiology among undergraduate students through seminars, workshops, and educational activities.

• Encourage Scientific Research: To inspire students to engage in research and explore innovative solutions to microbiological challenges, both locally and globally.

• Raise Public Health Awareness: To educate students and the wider community about the role of microbes in health, disease, and the environment, and to promote awareness of public health issues like antibiotic resistance and zoonotic diseases.

• Develop Practical Skills: To provide hands-on experiences through laboratory sessions, research collaborations, and fieldwork, helping students gain practical skills in microbiology.

• Build a Scientific Community: To create a network of aspiring microbiologists and professionals, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional development.

• Promote Global Microbiology Initiatives: To align with and contribute to the global goals of the American Society for Microbiology by addressing global health concerns and microbial challenges.

Through these efforts, ASMRU aims to inspire the next generation of microbiologists and equip them with the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact in the field of microbiology.

Our Governance 

The American Society for Microbiology Student Chapter of University of Rajshahi (ASMRU) operates through a structured governance framework that ensures efficient decision-making, planning, and execution of our mission. 

At the helm is our Advisor, a respected faculty member who provides guidance, mentorship, and oversight to the chapter. The Advisor plays a critical role in ensuring that our chapter stays aligned with its mission and adheres to the values of the American Society for Microbiology. 

Our governance is led by the Core Committee, which holds the primary authority to make strategic decisions for the chapter. This committee is responsible for overseeing the overall direction of the organization, ensuring alignment with our goals, and upholding the values of the American Society for Microbiology. 

Supporting the Core Committee is the Executive Committee, which is tasked with the day-to-day management of chapter activities. This committee is responsible for planning and organizing events, managing resources, and ensuring that our mission to promote microbiology education and public awareness is carried out effectively. 

Additionally, we have a group of Executive Members who work alongside the Executive Committee. These members assist in executing initiatives, coordinating events, and providing valuable input to help the chapter achieve its objectives. Together, these governance bodies ensure that ASMRU remains a dynamic and well-organized chapter, capable of fostering scientific engagement and contributing meaningfully to the field of microbiology.
